Cristiano Ronaldo has reached a historic milestone by becoming the first player to score 900 goals in professional football.
On Thursday, the 39-year-old forward achieved this feat during Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Croatia in their opening match of the 2024-25 Nations League. Ronaldo’s 900th goal came from close range in the first half of the game.
Following the goal, Ronaldo was visibly emotional. He briefly celebrated, then covered his face with his hands and fell to the ground, surrounded by his teammates.
This achievement comes shortly after Ronaldo’s inclusion in the Portugal squad for the Nations League raised questions, given his underwhelming performance at Euro 2024. Ronaldo responded to speculation about retiring from the national team by stating, “The thought ‘never’ crossed my mind” after the summer tournament.
Ronaldo has now scored 131 goals in 213 appearances for Portugal. His 769 club goals are distributed among Real Madrid (450), Manchester United (145), Juventus (101), his current team Al-Nassr (68), and Sporting CP (5).
