Napoli has agreed to send striker Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray on a season-long loan, as confirmed by sources including The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
After failing to secure a transfer to Chelsea or Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli on deadline day, Osimhen has reportedly accepted a move to Galatasaray. The terms of the loan include a break clause, allowing him to potentially join another club in January.
In a bid to facilitate a future transfer, Napoli has also reduced Osimhen’s release clause from €130 million to €75 million, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
The agreement does not include an option or obligation for Galatasaray to purchase Osimhen at the end of the loan period. However, the Turkish club will cover his reported €12 million annual salary.
Despite expressing his desire to leave Napoli as early as January, Osimhen was unable to finalize a transfer this summer. Chelsea had reportedly reached an agreement with Napoli, but personal terms with Osimhen could not be settled.
Although the transfer windows for Europe’s top five leagues have closed, Turkish clubs are permitted to make signings until September 13. European teams can still sell players after their transfer windows have closed.
Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli’s 2023 Serie A title win, scoring 26 goals. Last season, he scored 15 goals as Napoli finished in 10th place.
At Galatasaray, Osimhen will join teammates including Mauro Icardi, Dries Mertens, Michy Batshuayi, and Lucas Torreira.
