Kylian Mbappe scored his first two La Liga goals as Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Real Betis.
The French forward opened the scoring by capitalizing on a backheel pass from Federico Valverde, slotting the ball past goalkeeper Rui Silva. Mbappe then doubled Madrid’s lead with a penalty after Silva fouled Vinicius Jr.
Mbappe had not found the net in his previous three La Liga appearances, though he did score on his debut for Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta. The 25-year-old, who joined Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, remains the all-time top scorer for his former club with 256 goals.
Mbappe’s first goal came from his 25th shot of the La Liga season, and the penalty was his 26th attempt. This tally surpasses the number of shots taken by any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.
Real Betis had opportunities to score earlier in the match, with Abde Ezzalzouli heading wide from close range and Barcelona loanee Vitor Roque forcing a save with his initial touch off the bench.
Madrid also created numerous chances, with Mbappe initially missing seven shots before his goals, while Eder Militao and Valverde tested the Betis goalkeeper. Vinicius Jr. also hit the post with a deflected shot.
After four league games, Madrid remain unbeaten but trail Barcelona by four points. Real Betis have collected just one point from their first three matches.
