Manchester United have initiated exploratory discussions regarding a potential deal to acquire Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.
The 29-year-old forward has been training separately from the first-team squad after Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca indicated that Sterling might find it challenging to secure regular playing time with the club.
Although no agreement has been finalized, the talks highlight United sporting director Dan Ashworth’s interest in leveraging the situation at Stamford Bridge for his club’s benefit.
United sources emphasize that any potential deal will be structured to their advantage. Additionally, winger Jadon Sancho, who is also available, has attracted interest from Chelsea.
Juventus are interested in Sancho but are not willing to meet United’s conditions for including an obligation to buy in a loan deal, nor are they prepared to cover the entirety of the 24-year-old’s wages.
Sterling, who has earned 82 caps for England, is a known childhood fan of Manchester United. He spent a decade in the North West, first with Liverpool and then with Manchester City, where he won 10 major trophies before joining Chelsea in a £50m transfer two years ago.
