Dusan Vlahovic scored twice as Juventus secured a 3-0 victory over Verona on Monday, marking their second consecutive win to start the Serie A season.
Juventus, who had previously defeated Como 3-0, are the only team with a 100% record after two matches, placing them at the top of the early Serie A table. The team is aiming for their first Scudetto since the 2019-20 season.
Thiago Motta has taken over as head coach following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri after an outburst post their Italian Cup final victory in May. Juventus finished third in Serie A last season, their highest position in four years.
Vlahovic opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark. Nicolo Savona, making his full debut, scored the second goal before halftime with a header from Samuel Mbangula’s cross. Mbangula, promoted from the youth team, now has one goal and two assists in his first two senior games.
Vlahovic secured the win with a penalty eight minutes into the second half. Vlahovic commented on Motta’s impact, stating, “He is certainly working hard on our aggression and our attitude. We all agree that our attitude is the key to everything. If we have the right mentality, it all works better. We play for each other, but also there are tactical changes that we know about.”
Juventus is set to face a significant challenge when they host Roma on Sunday.
In other Serie A action, Como earned their first point since 2003 with a 1-1 draw at Cagliari, thanks to a second-half equalizer from former AC Milan forward Patrick Cutrone. Como coach Cesc Fabregas noted, “I am happy, because this is a difficult place to play, but at the same time we need to improve and as soon as possible get used to the Serie A tempo.”
