Kylian Mbappe, who recently joined Real Madrid as a free agent after seven years with PSG, has taken legal steps against his former club over unpaid wages.
The French forward, who made an impressive debut by scoring in the UEFA Super Cup, is embroiled in a dispute with PSG and its main shareholder, Qatar Sports Investments.
Mbappe is seeking approximately €55 million gross from PSG, which includes a portion of his signing bonus (€36 million) that was due in February, the last three months of his contract wages (April, May, June), and an ‘ethics bonus’ for those months. Despite sending a formal notice to PSG in mid-June, the matter remains unresolved, prompting Mbappe to escalate his actions.
The player has contacted the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) through the Fédération Française de Football (FFF). On August 8, Mbappe reported the issue to the LFP’s legal committee, which has the power to ban PSG from recruiting new players until the matter is settled.
Additionally, on August 13, Mbappe’s representatives sent a letter to the FFF, requesting that UEFA be informed of the situation. The UEFA Club Licence Committee, responsible for granting licenses to clubs for European competitions, could potentially revoke PSG’s license if irregularities are found.
This legal dispute highlights the ongoing tensions between Mbappe and PSG following his departure.
