Wojciech Szczesny has departed from Juventus after seven seasons, the Italian club confirmed on Wednesday. The Polish goalkeeper is reported to be moving to a Saudi Arabian club.
Szczesny, 34, succeeded Gianluigi Buffon as Juventus’s first-choice goalkeeper in 2017. However, he has recently fallen out of favor at the Turin club, which last won Serie A four years ago.
In a statement, Juventus announced, “Juventus and Wojciech Szczesny part ways after seven seasons together, with the two parties agreeing to a mutual termination of their contract.”
Szczesny joined Juventus from Arsenal and had previously spent two seasons on loan at Roma. Over his tenure with Juventus, he appeared in 252 matches, keeping 103 clean sheets, and earned three Serie A titles and three Italian Cup trophies.
With Szczesny’s departure, new coach Thiago Motta has signed Michele Di Gregorio from Monza as his replacement.
“Tek (Szczesny) will always be remembered as a dedicated player and a man who wore our jersey with pride and professionalism,” the club remarked. “Thanks for everything Tek, and good luck for the future!”
