West Ham United have completed the signing of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United for £15 million. The 26-year-old has agreed to a seven-year contract with the Hammers.
Wan-Bissaka, who joined Manchester United from Crystal Palace for £50 million in 2019, made 190 appearances and scored two goals for the Red Devils.
He is West Ham’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window, following Jean-Clair Todibo, Crysencio Summerville, Luis Guilherme, Niclas Fullkrug, Wes Foderingham, Max Kilman, and Guido Rodriguez.
In his statement, Wan-Bissaka said, “It was a no brainer for me to join West Ham – I’m excited and happy to be here. I can’t wait to get on the pitch, get to know the players, and push on from there. I see a team that is in it together, that will push each other to win, and a group that has got each others’ backs through thick and thin, so being part of that and having that insurance helps a lot when you are surrounded by a good squad.”
Wan-Bissaka, a London native, expressed his pleasure at returning to the capital, calling it an “amazing feeling.”
He was initially signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his tenure as Manchester United manager in 2019 and was a regular starter until Solskjaer’s departure in 2021. Under Erik ten Hag, who took over in 2022, Wan-Bissaka made 64 appearances over the past two seasons, although he was no longer a regular starter.
The transfer of Wan-Bissaka facilitated Manchester United’s move for Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui, with the Red Devils now expected to finalize the signing of the Morocco international.
West Ham will start their 2024-25 Premier League season against Aston Villa on August 17, while Manchester United will host Fulham on August 16.
