Liverpool FC is actively engaged in discussions with Real Sociedad regarding a potential transfer for Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
The 25-year-old has a release clause set at 60 million euros (£51.5 million), which must be paid in a single installment if Liverpool decides to trigger it. Nevertheless, the club is currently negotiating the terms of a deal with Sociedad, and any transfer will also hinge on Zubimendi’s personal decision.
Reports suggest that the delay in finalizing the transfer is not due to Liverpool attempting to include players in a possible swap deal.
Zubimendi, who has been with Real Sociedad since 2011, is presently on a pre-season tour in Germany with his team. He was listed as a substitute during their recent friendly match against Union Berlin on Friday.
Liverpool has targeted Zubimendi as they aim to secure their first significant signing under new manager Arne Slot. Notably, Zubimendi was part of the Spain national team that triumphed in Euro 2024, where he made an appearance as a second-half substitute for Manchester City’s Rodri in the final match against England, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Spain.
