Barcelona has officially signed Spain playmaker Dani Olmo from German club RB Leipzig. The transfer is reported to be worth 60 million euros (£51 million). Olmo, 26, returns to Barcelona after previously playing for the club at the youth level. He joined Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia in 2014 before moving to Leipzig.
The new contract with Barcelona spans six years and includes a release clause set at 500 million euros (£429 million). Olmo recently played a crucial role in Spain’s victory at Euro 2024, where he was joint top-scorer with three goals, helping the team secure its fourth tournament title.
Barcelona praised Olmo in a statement, noting, “Wherever he plays, Olmo stands out for his individual talent and his ability to link up with his team-mates. He has a nose for goal as he showed in Euro 2024 and can score from inside and outside the penalty area.”
During his time with RB Leipzig, Olmo won two German Cups after joining the team in 2020. Reflecting on his time at the club, he expressed gratitude on X, stating, “A young club, a young player. We grew up, won our first trophies and made history together. Thank you RB Leipzig, you’ll forever be in my heart.”
