West Ham United has completed the signing of Argentine international midfielder Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer. The announcement was made on Tuesday, marking Rodriguez as the club’s sixth summer acquisition.
The 30-year-old midfielder was part of the Argentina national team that won the World Cup in 2022, as well as the Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024. He became available for West Ham after his contract with Real Betis expired.
During his four-and-a-half years at Real Betis, Rodriguez established himself as a key player, contributing to the club’s qualification for European competitions in each of the last four seasons.
“I feel like it’s every footballer’s dream to play in the Premier League, and I was very excited when I heard that West Ham were interested in me,” Rodriguez stated in a club announcement. “I will bring experience to the team, and though I’m aware the Premier League is very physical, I’m ready to put the work in to make sure I’m up to the task.”
Rodriguez joins a roster that has seen significant additions this summer, including German international striker Niclas Fuellkrug, wingers Crysencio Summerville and Luis Guilherme, and defender Max Kilman. These signings are part of Julen Lopetegui’s first season in charge of the team.
Technical Director Tim Steidten emphasized the importance of Rodriguez’s arrival, describing it as a “statement of intent” as the club looks to improve upon its ninth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
“This is a massive moment for West Ham United in bringing a player of Guido’s pedigree to the club,” Steidten remarked. “He is a player I have admired for a long time, and we couldn’t be happier to have completed the deal to bring him to east London.”
