Chelsea has signed 19-year-old United States defender Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United in a deal valued at a reported £8.5 million ($10.9 million), the club announced on Monday.
Wiley has agreed to a six-year contract with Chelsea, which includes an option for an additional season.
“Chelsea is pleased to announce the signing of United States international Caleb Wiley,” the club confirmed on their website.
Wiley, who has been a part of Atlanta’s first team since 2022, made his senior debut for the United States against Mexico last October. He is currently in Paris with the US squad at the Olympic Games.
Upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Wiley will be evaluated by Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca. He will be competing for a place with Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell, who are Chelsea’s senior left-backs.
There are reports suggesting that Wiley might spend the upcoming season on loan at French club Strasbourg, which is also part of the Blueco ownership group that includes Chelsea.
