French club Marseille are advancing in negotiations to secure a £17 million transfer for Tottenham Hotspur and Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The 28-year-old is reportedly prepared to leave north London and is available for the aforementioned fee. Talks are ongoing regarding payment terms, but both parties are optimistic about finalizing the deal.
Hojbjerg joined Spurs in 2020 from Southampton in a £15 million transfer under then-manager Jose Mourinho. Last season, he made 39 appearances for Tottenham, although only 10 of those were as a starter, with manager Ange Postecoglou preferring Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in central midfield.
Entering the final year of his contract with Tottenham, Hojbjerg could be available on a free transfer in 2025 if new terms are not negotiated.
Tottenham have bolstered their midfield this summer with the acquisitions of Archie Gray from Leeds and Lucas Bergvall from Swedish club Djurgardens.
Marseille have been active in the transfer market following the appointment of former Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi. They recently signed forward Mason Greenwood from Manchester United and midfielder Ismael Kone from Watford. Additionally, they are reportedly interested in Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.
