Manchester City has officially confirmed the departure of Sergio Gomez from the club. The young defender has completed a permanent move to Real Sociedad.
The news was confirmed through an official announcement on mancity.com. During his tenure at the club, Gomez made 38 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side. He was part of Manchester City’s treble-winning squad during the 2022/23 season, contributing to victories in the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Championship, and the Premier League title. Gomez, a Spanish youth international, departs Manchester City having won 6 major trophies.
Simon Bajkowski reported on his official X account that Real Sociedad secured Gomez in a deal valued up to €10 million. Bajkowski also noted a 30% sell-on clause included in the agreement.
Despite his talent, Gomez faced barriers to regular playtime at Manchester City, particularly with Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake preferred in his position. His move to Real Sociedad provides him with better prospects for first-team football.
