Inter Milan will kick off their Serie A title defense against Genoa, while Como, returning to the top flight after 21 years, will face Juventus as per the 2024/25 season fixture list announced on Thursday.
The season starts on the weekend of August 17-18. Inter, led by manager Simone Inzaghi, secured last season’s Scudetto and will strive to maintain their title under new ownership by US investment fund Oaktree, who acquired the club in May. The change in ownership followed Suning’s failure to meet a 395 million euro loan deadline.
Giuseppe Marotta, appointed president after his successful tenure with Suning since 2018, remains pivotal in Inter’s recent achievements.
Inter’s opening fixture against Genoa is scheduled for August 18, followed by home matches against Lecce and Europa League champions Atalanta, and an away fixture against Monza. They will confront local rivals AC Milan in September’s fifth round.
Como, backed by Indonesian conglomerate Djarum since their acquisition in 2019, will commence their Serie A return against Juventus, with new coach Thiago Motta succeeding Massimiliano Allegri. The club’s initial fixtures against Juve, Cagliari, and Udinese will be played away as renovations at Giuseppe Sinigaglia stadium are underway to meet Serie A standards. Como’s first home game against Bologna is slated for mid-September.
Atalanta and other promoted teams, Parma and Venezia, will also play their initial three fixtures away due to ongoing stadium renovations.
The 2024/25 Serie A season will conclude on May 25, with matches spread across each weekend: one on Friday, three on Saturday, five on Sunday, and one on Monday. Only two matches are scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 3pm.
The first three rounds in August and early September will be evening fixtures to mitigate summer heat.
