Chelsea Football Club has finalized the £5 million acquisition of Barcelona’s young talent Marc Guiu, securing his services on a five-year contract, with an option for an additional year.
Last week, Chelsea agreed in principle to trigger Guiu’s £5 million release clause, solidifying the deal for the 18-year-old striker.
Barcelona reportedly attempted to renegotiate Guiu’s contract, aiming to eliminate the modest release clause by offering him an extension.
Nevertheless, Chelsea successfully concluded the signing of the Spain Under-19s forward, aimed at strengthening their offensive lineup.
A graduate from Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy, Guiu made an impactful debut by scoring just 23 seconds into his first senior appearance against Athletic Bilbao in 2023.
Guiu, known for his robust and agile play as a number nine, has accrued limited experience, scoring twice in seven senior matches.
While Guiu is expected to bolster Chelsea’s first-team squad, manager Enzo Maresca’s club remains open to potentially adding more attacking options during the upcoming summer transfer window.
