Brentford FC has finalized the club’s largest-ever transfer with the £30 million acquisition of striker Igor Thiago from Club Brugge.
The 23-year-old, Brentford’s first Brazilian player, joins the Premier League after agreeing to the move in February. Thiago’s arrival is expected to fill the void left by Ivan Toney, whose contract with the club is nearing its end, prompting interest from larger clubs.
“I’m very happy to have signed for Brentford and to get to know the club,” Thiago expressed.
Thiago, who scored 18 goals in 34 Belgian league matches during Brugge’s title-winning campaign, has been assigned the number nine shirt, following a reassignment that saw Kevin Schade move to number seven.
“It’s an immense source of happiness for me, to be able to play for this club in the Premier League,” Thiago commented.
He was recognized as the young player of the season in the Uefa Conference League last season.
“I think that throughout my career, since I left Brazil, I think that’s what I was looking for – to gain good energy, win titles, make a name for myself, make history,” Thiago added.
