Bayern Munich have officially confirmed Vincent Kompany as their new head coach, succeeding Thomas Tuchel. The 38-year-old Belgian, who previously led Burnley, joins the Bundesliga giants on a three-year deal following a compensation agreement between the two clubs, reportedly valued at £10.2 million.
Kompany guided Burnley to Championship glory in the 2022-23 season but faced relegation from the Premier League this year after finishing 19th. Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Kompany stated, “It’s a great honour to be able to work for this club – FC Bayern is an institution in international football.”
Having retired from professional play in 2020, Kompany made the transition into coaching, making significant strides during his tenure at Burnley. Despite initial hopes from Burnley to retain him, the allure of Bayern Munich proved too compelling for Kompany to resist.
While the Belgian tactician’s appointment has been confirmed, there is uncertainty regarding whether his backroom staff, including assistant manager Craig Bellamy, will make the move to Germany alongside him.
With Kompany’s wealth of experience both as a player and a coach, Bayern Munich looks to leverage his expertise to further strengthen their position in domestic and international competitions.
