La Liga president Javier Tebas has officially confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe will be joining Real Madrid for the upcoming season.
The 25-year-old French captain recently announced his departure from PSG at the end of his current contract, sparking widespread speculation about his next destination. With Madrid emerging as the frontrunners after persistent pursuit, Tebas’s statement solidifies Mbappe’s imminent move to the Spanish capital.
“He’s Madrid’s next season, yes,” affirmed Tebas in an interview with Argentine daily sports newspaper Ole on Monday.
Mbappe’s arrival will bolster an already star-studded Real Madrid squad, featuring talents like Brazil’s Vinicius Junior and England international Jude Bellingham. The club, which comfortably secured the Spanish title, is also set to contest the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on June 1st.
“(Mbappe) is one of the best players in the world, but Vinicius and Bellingham are there too, Madrid will have a great squad,” noted Tebas. “But that does not guarantee you will win leagues.”
With a record of 256 goals, Mbappe holds the title of PSG’s all-time leading scorer since his arrival from Monaco in 2017 for a staggering fee of 180 million euros ($194 million). Despite claiming six French league titles during his tenure, he fell short of Champions League glory, with PSG finishing as runners-up to Bayern Munich in 2020.
By joining Real Madrid, a club boasting a record 14 Champions League titles, Mbappe aims to enhance his chances of clinching club football’s most prestigious trophy.
