Tottenham Hotspur’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, voiced concerns over the club’s fragile state after their recent loss to Manchester City dashed hopes for Champions League qualification.
In the crucial match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs fell 2-0 to City, effectively ending their bid for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Postecoglou expressed dismay over the fragility both within and outside the club, stating, “The foundations are really fragile… It’s been an interesting exercise. It’s just my observations, mate.”
Ahead of the match, Postecoglou was puzzled by some Spurs fans’ apparent willingness to see their team lose to City, believing it would harm Arsenal’s title chances.
Despite a spirited performance by Tottenham, Erling Haaland’s 51st-minute goal was met with chants from home supporters aimed at Arsenal, reflecting a subdued atmosphere in north London.
When questioned about the impact of the crowd’s mood on his players, Postecoglou acknowledged its influence, remarking, “Of course it does. It is what it is. I can’t dictate what people do.”
A video captured Postecoglou engaging in a heated exchange with a Spurs fan during the match, while footage showed home supporters mimicking City’s Poznan celebration shortly after the opening goal.
In response to queries about the fans’ behavior, Postecoglou remained focused on his objectives, stating, “I just want to win… So what other people, how they want to feel, and what their priorities are, are of zero interest to me.”
The defeat highlighted the challenges facing Postecoglou as he aims to build a successful team at Tottenham Hotspur, emphasizing the need to concentrate on core objectives.
