Barcelona reclaimed the second spot in the Spanish league standings following a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Monday.
Despite an early disallowed goal by Sheraldo Becker for offside, Barcelona asserted dominance gradually throughout the match. Raphinha’s strike hit the woodwork at the 38th-minute mark, signaling Barcelona’s growing threat.
The breakthrough came when 16-year-old Lamine Yamal capitalized on a well-executed cross from Ilkay Gündogan, netting his fifth goal of the league season from 15 yards out.
Reflecting on the game, Yamal commented, “It was an important match to regain second place. Real Sociedad had a strong start, but we found our rhythm gradually.”
Barcelona sealed their victory in stoppage time as Raphinha converted from the penalty spot, awarded after a handball by Álvaro Odriozola.
With this win, Barcelona now sit one point ahead of Girona in the league table.
Real Sociedad currently occupies the seventh position, trailing just one point behind Real Betis.
