McLaren’s Lando Norris showcased a commanding performance at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, securing victory with a 20.945-second lead over Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
Norris’ teammate, Oscar Piastri, completed the podium by finishing in third place.
Starting from pole position, Norris maintained his lead throughout the race. However, he missed out on the fastest lap point when Daniel Ricciardo captured it on the final lap after pitting just before the end of the race, aiding Verstappen in the championship standings.
Throughout the event, Norris encountered a few close calls. He clipped the wall at turn 10, causing minor damage to his right rear, and nearly hit the barrier at turn 14 due to a lock-up.
“It was an amazing race. A few too many close calls,” the 24-year-old reflected post-race, acknowledging that while he could have driven more conservatively, he aimed to win by the largest margin possible.
With this victory, Norris has narrowed the gap to Verstappen in the driver’s standings, now trailing by 52 points. Meanwhile, McLaren has expanded its lead in the constructors’ standings to 41 points over Red Bull, following Sergio Perez’s 10th-place finish.
As the season progresses, six races remain, with the next event set for the United States Grand Prix from October 18-20.
