London-based boxer Sherif Lawal, aged 29, tragically passed away following his professional debut match on Sunday.
Referee Lee Every halted the bout at Harrow Leisure Centre in round four, as Lawal was knocked down by Portuguese opponent Malam Varela.
Lawal received immediate medical attention on-site before being transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
In a statement released on Monday (13 May), the British Boxing Board of Control expressed condolences to Sherifdeen Lawal’s family, acknowledging his passing after the boxing contest on Sunday, 12th May 2024.
Similarly, the British & Irish Boxing Authority (Biba) extended their condolences to Lawal’s family, acknowledging his unfortunate passing following the match with Malam Varela over the weekend.
Warren Boxing Management, associated with Lawal’s debut, conveyed their sympathies to Lawal’s family, friends, coaches, and all affected parties during this difficult time.
