Angel Reese established a new WNBA single-season rebounding record on Sunday, despite the Chicago Sky’s 79-74 defeat to the Minnesota Lynx. Reese’s record-breaking performance included 17 points and 19 rebounds, marking her 24th double-double of the season—a league rookie record.
Reese has now accumulated 418 rebounds, averaging 13.1 per game, surpassing the previous record of 404 set by Sylvia Fowles in 2018. Additionally, Reese set a new record for offensive rebounds with 165, surpassing Yolanda Griffiths’ 162 from 2001.
In this game, Reese and A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces are the only players in the league to have achieved at least four games with 15 or more points and 15 or more rebounds this season.
Courtney Williams led the Lynx with 22 points, matching her season high. Kayla McBride contributed 17 points, and Napheesa Collier added 15 points for Minnesota, who improved to a 24-9 record. The Lynx are currently 8-1 since the Olympic break.
Chicago, with a record of 11-21, suffered their sixth consecutive loss. The Sky’s lead over the Atlanta Dream for the final playoff spot is now reduced to one-half game, with the Dream set to face the Los Angeles Sparks later that night.
Kamilla Cardoso led the Sky with a career-high 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds. Michaela Onyenwere added 15 points. Despite an 11-2 run by the Sky in the fourth quarter that tied the game at 62-all, the Lynx took control with back-to-back pull-up jumpers by Williams, securing the win.
