NBA veteran Joe Harris is retiring from professional basketball, as reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Harris, known for his shooting prowess, achieved a career 43.6% accuracy from beyond the arc on 2,354 attempts over a decade-long career. He led the NBA in 3-point percentage in the 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons and won the NBA’s 3-point contest in 2019.
Selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 33rd pick in the 2014 NBA Draft from the University of Virginia, Harris averaged 9.1 minutes per game across 56 games during his two seasons in Cleveland.
In the 2016 offseason, Harris joined the Brooklyn Nets, where he played for seven seasons. His standout performance came in the 2020-21 season, where he averaged a career-high 14.5 points per game and maintained a 41.9% shooting accuracy from three-point range in six seasons.
Harris was traded to the Detroit Pistons before the 2023-24 season but struggled with the team, averaging 2.4 points per game and shooting 33.3% from deep in 16 games. He was waived by the Pistons in February and did not sign with another team.
Additionally, Harris represented Team USA in the 2019 World Cup, alongside players such as Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Donovan Mitchell. He contributed by shooting 50% from three-point range as the team finished in seventh place.
