The Denver Nuggets and veteran guard Russell Westbrook have agreed to a two-year, $6.8-million contract, according to sources from The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Westbrook’s deal includes a player option for the 2025-26 season.
The Los Angeles Clippers traded Westbrook to the Utah Jazz last week in a sign-and-trade for Kris Dunn. Subsequently, the Jazz bought out Westbrook’s contract, allowing him to join the Nuggets.
Westbrook, a nine-time All-Star, spent parts of the last two seasons with the Clippers. During his time there, he averaged 12.2 points, 5.2 assists, five rebounds, and 1.1 steals over 89 appearances. He finished seventh in the voting for the Sixth Man of the Year award last season.
The Nuggets were looking for a backup point guard and additional bench scoring after Reggie Jackson’s departure. Denver’s bench ranked 25th in scoring during the 2023-24 regular season and second-to-last in the playoffs.
