Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has agreed to a landmark five-year, $314 million supermax contract extension, sources confirmed on Monday. The deal, negotiated by Tatum’s representatives, includes a player option for the final season and a trade kicker, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Tatum, 26, committed to remain with the Celtics shortly after their recent NBA championship victory over the Dallas Mavericks. He played a pivotal role in Boston’s success, leading the team with averages of 25 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game during their playoff run.
The extension solidifies Tatum as one of the highest-paid players in NBA history, alongside teammate Jaylen Brown, who signed a $304 million contract last year. Boston now boasts the distinction of having two players under supermax deals.
Since being drafted third overall by Boston in the 2017 NBA Draft, Tatum has spent his entire seven-year career with the franchise. A five-time All-Star, he has maintained averages of 23.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game over his career.
General Manager Brad Stevens has also secured other key players from their championship-winning squad. Jrue Holiday extended his contract for four years and $135 million in April, while Payton Pritchard signed a four-year, $30 million deal last October. Additionally, Kristaps Porzingis remains under contract until the 2025-26 season.
On Monday, the Celtics also finalized a lucrative four-year, $125.9 million extension with All-Defensive guard Derrick White.
