The Los Angeles Clippers are poised to re-sign guard James Harden to a two-year contract worth $70 million, sources confirmed to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
According to reports, Harden’s contract includes a player option for the second year.
Harden was acquired by the Clippers via trade in November, following his departure from the Philadelphia 76ers due to a dispute with team president Daryl Morey. During his tenure in L.A., the 34-year-old appeared in 76 games, averaging 16.6 points and 8.5 assists per game. The Clippers finished fourth in the Western Conference with a 51-31 record.
In the postseason, Harden emerged as the Clippers’ top scorer despite their first-round exit against the Dallas Mavericks in six games. He averaged 21.2 points per game, leading the team as teammate Kawhi Leonard was sidelined for most of the playoffs due to injury.
The re-signing of Harden represents one of the Clippers’ significant moves in this free agency period. The team is also reportedly focused on retaining star forward Paul George.
