James, who has the option to become a free agent this summer, returned to Cleveland, where he previously led the Cavaliers to their only NBA championship in 2016 before departing in 2018.
The league’s all-time leading scorer, James, 39, resides near his hometown of Akron and has revisited Cleveland multiple times since his departure but had not attended any Cavs games until now.
Arriving just as the game tipped off, James, accompanied by his wife, Savannah, and agent Rich Paul, took a courtside seat at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
Acknowledging the crowd’s thunderous ovation when shown on the scoreboard during a timeout, James playfully mimicked placing a crown on his head.
Following a brief postseason with the Los Angeles Lakers, who were eliminated in the first round by the Denver Nuggets, James has kept his options open regarding his next career move.
James has previously expressed interest in potentially playing alongside his eldest son, Bronny, who recently declared for this year’s NBA draft after playing at USC last season.
Notably, Bronny James was medically cleared by league doctors to participate in the pre-draft combine in Chicago after experiencing a cardiac arrest last summer.
A 20-time All-Star, four-time league MVP, and champion, James was drafted No. 1 overall by Cleveland and spent seven seasons with the Cavs before joining the Miami Heat in 2010 as a free agent. He then returned to Cleveland in 2014, leading the team to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances, all against the Golden State Warriors.
