Dallas Mavericks’ standout player, Luka Doncic, is uncertain for Game 3 of the team’s second-round playoff clash against the Oklahoma City Thunder this Saturday. Doncic, grappling with knee and ankle problems, remains questionable for the pivotal matchup.
The Slovenian sensation sustained a knee sprain during Game 3 of the Mavericks’ previous series against the Los Angeles Clippers, leading to his utilization of a substantial brace. Additionally, in the fourth quarter of Dallas’ recent Game 2 victory over the Thunder, Doncic encountered a mishap when he tangled with Oklahoma City rookie Cason Wallace, resulting in an ankle tweak.
Addressing the incident in a post-game press conference, Doncic commented, “He just stepped on my foot, but nothing serious. I know he didn’t do it on purpose, so nothing serious. We just thought it was a foul. Other people would get a foul call on that one.”
Despite the ankle discomfort, Doncic continued playing and contributed crucial points in the latter stages of the game, ensuring the Mavericks clinched a 119-110 victory to level the series at 1-1. He concluded the game with 29 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists.
While Doncic’s injury status remains uncertain, his participation in Game 3 seems probable. However, the extent of his performance impact remains in question.
Despite maintaining impressive statistics throughout the postseason with averages of 28.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 9.1 assists per game, Doncic’s efficiency has been hindered by his knee ailment. His shooting percentage of 40.9% marks his least efficient postseason to date. Notably, the recent victory over the Thunder only marked the second time in eight games where he surpassed a 50% shooting rate.
Although the Mavericks managed to overcome the Clippers despite Doncic’s subdued shooting performance, replicating such success against the Thunder appears challenging.
The looming uncertainty surrounding Doncic’s condition adds an intriguing dimension to the forthcoming matchup, with the Mavericks eagerly awaiting further updates on their star player’s availability.
