Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant expressed admiration for Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving, his former teammate with the Brooklyn Nets, prior to their upcoming matchup. Durant, reflecting on Irving’s career, commended his skills and consistency.
“I always thought Kyrie was a master-level player,” Durant told reporters. “It’s been like that for me, the last 10 years. I feel like – he probably won’t ever say this, he’s such a humble player, humble person – I just think he’s a complete player. I feel like there’s no weaknesses or no holes in his game, physically or mentally. And I feel like his approach to the game is perfect for what you need as a team.”
Durant added that Irving’s commitment is notable: “I just think he just keeps showing up every day, keep adding to his greatness, his legacy, and he’s gonna help out the Mavs as much as he can.”
Irving, now in his third season with Dallas after a February 2023 trade from the Nets, is currently averaging 23 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game across eight games. He has been shooting 49.6% from the field and an impressive 54.5% from beyond the arc.
The Suns and Mavericks have met once this season on October 26, with Phoenix emerging victorious at 114-102. The teams will face off again Friday as Irving looks to contribute further to Dallas’ campaign.
