LeBron James and his son Bronny made history as the first father-son duo to play together in an NBA game during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 118-114 preseason loss to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.
Following the game, LeBron reflected on the surreal nature of the experience, stating, “Still trying to get a little bit used to it. It’s been cool. It’s been cool for both of us, especially for our family. It’s definitely a moment that I will never forget,” as reported by Spectrum’s Mark Medina.
The duo entered the game together at the end of the second quarter and quickly initiated a full-court press.

As LeBron approaches Year 22 of his NBA career, he acknowledged the uniqueness of this moment. “This is totally different, but it’s definitely something that is not being taken for granted,” he added.
Bronny, celebrating his 20th birthday, played for 13 minutes, recording two rebounds and shooting 0-of-1 from the field. In contrast, LeBron contributed significantly in his 16 minutes on the court, finishing with 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
“I was pretty psyched for that,” Bronny said, referring to the moment he learned from JJ Redick that they would be playing together earlier in the day.
The achievement of a father-son duo competing together has been seen in Major League Baseball with Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. on the Seattle Mariners, as well as in the National Hockey League with Gordie Howe and his sons Mark and Marty on the Hartford Whalers.
LeBron and Bronny will have the chance to become the first father-son pair to play together in a regular-season NBA game on October 22, when the Lakers face the Minnesota Timberwolves.
