Joel Embiid, the star center for the Philadelphia 76ers, has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $193 million, as confirmed by sources to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Embiid announced his new deal via Instagram, stating, “I want to be here for the rest of my career.” This extension is set to begin in the 2026-27 season. Under his previous contract, Embiid held a player option for that season; however, his new agreement includes an option for the 2028-29 season valued at approximately $69.1 million, according to Spotrac.
With this extension, Embiid’s total guaranteed earnings throughout the remainder of his contract are now reported to be around $300 million.
The 30-year-old center delivered a career-best performance last season, averaging 34.7 points per game in his eighth season. He also recorded 11 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game. However, a meniscus injury sidelined him for two months starting in February, impacting his MVP-caliber campaign.
Embiid represented the United States at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer, participating in five of the six games as the men’s team secured its fifth consecutive gold medal. He averaged 11.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in what marked his first Olympic tournament.
“Joel has cemented himself as one of the greatest Sixers of all time and is well on his way to being one of the best players to ever play the game,” stated 76ers managing partner Josh Harris. “We’re ecstatic that this extension keeps him and his family in Philadelphia for years to come. Joel is a great family man, leader, and person. He is an elite two-way player with a combination of size, strength, and athleticism that this league has rarely – if ever – seen. He is integral to this franchise’s quest for another NBA championship, and we are honored that he continues to choose this organization as his NBA home.”
Embiid, who was named MVP for the 2022-23 season, is also a seven-time All-Star and a five-time All-NBA selection, earning second-team honors on four occasions and a first-team nomination in 2023. He is a two-time NBA scoring champion, with a league-leading average of 34.1 points per game last season, though he did not qualify for a third scoring title due to injury.
