The Miami Heat will unveil a bronze statue of Dwyane Wade outside the Kaseya Center on October 27, the organization announced on Thursday.
The celebration of Wade’s legacy will continue the following night, marking the 21st anniversary of his NBA debut with a game against the Detroit Pistons. Wade, now 42, will address the crowd during halftime.
In January, team president Pat Riley revealed that the Heat would construct a statue to honor the franchise icon. Wade’s jersey was retired by the team in 2020. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023, alongside Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol, Tony Parker, and coach Gregg Popovich.
Wade was drafted by Miami as the fifth overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. He spent 14 of his 16 NBA seasons with the Heat, playing a key role in the team’s championships in 2006, 2012, and 2013. Wade was named the Finals MVP in 2006, earned 13 All-Star selections, and was named to eight All-NBA teams throughout his career.
