Houston Rockets forward AJ Griffin is contemplating stepping away from basketball, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Kelly Iko. Sources indicate that Griffin and the Rockets are preparing for the possibility of his departure from the game.
The Rockets acquired Griffin this summer from the Atlanta Hawks as part of a three-team trade. During the Summer League, Griffin averaged 11.6 points, three rebounds, and 1.2 steals in five games for Houston.
Griffin began his professional career with the Hawks, where he played for his first two seasons. As a rookie, he averaged 8.9 points per game and shot 39% from three-point range. However, during his second season, he fell out of the rotation and was a DNP-CD for several games.
A four-star recruit from high school and a McDonald’s All-American, Griffin committed to Duke for his sole collegiate season, where he earned ACC All-Freshman Team honors.
