Bronny James, son of NBA legend LeBron James, has opted to keep his name in the NBA draft, as confirmed by his agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group. The decision was announced on ESPN and later confirmed by Paul to The Associated Press.
The younger James, who completed a season of college basketball at Southern California, averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game during his collegiate career. Despite a setback at the start of the season due to a medical procedure for a congenital heart defect, which resulted in cardiac arrest during a summer workout, a panel of doctors recently cleared him for NBA play.
Standing at 6 feet, 1 1/2 inches, slightly shorter than his listed height on USC’s roster, Bronny announced his intention to enter the draft in April. He had until the deadline of 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday to decide whether to remain in the draft or return to college.
The draft, scheduled for June 26-27, presents the opportunity for Bronny James to potentially join his father, LeBron James, in the NBA. If he does, they would become the first father-son duo to play in the league simultaneously. LeBron James, who may become a free agent this summer, is poised to enter his 22nd NBA season.
LeBron has expressed his desire to share the court with his son, stating, “The kid has to do what he wants to do.” This sentiment aligns with the possibility that a team drafting Bronny might seek to leverage his connection to lure LeBron to their roster.
As Bronny prepares for the next phase of his basketball career, the NBA awaits to see where his talent and determination will take him.
