New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson will be sidelined for a minimum of six-to-eight weeks following surgery on his left hand, as confirmed by the team on Wednesday.
Brunson sustained a broken hand during the second half of the Knicks’ Game 7 defeat against the Indiana Pacers, marking an early end to his postseason run.
Throughout the playoffs, the Villanova alum showcased his prowess, averaging 32.4 points, 7.5 assists, and 3.3 rebounds, contributing significantly to the Knicks’ playoff journey. His standout performance was a 47-point outing against the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 4 of the opening round, setting a new franchise record for playoff points.
Earlier in the season, Brunson secured his maiden All-Star selection and finished fifth in both MVP and Most Improved Player award voting.
In addition to Brunson’s setback, the Knicks also announced the sidelining of forward Bojan Bogdanovic for a similar duration after he underwent surgery on his left wrist.
Bogdanovic, acquired midseason from the Detroit Pistons, posted an average of 10.4 points and a 37% three-point shooting rate across 29 appearances for New York.
However, Bogdanovic’s postseason contribution was limited to just four games due to a foot injury sustained in the opening round, requiring subsequent surgery last month.
With one more season remaining on his contract worth $19 million, Bogdanovic’s salary will become fully guaranteed on June 28th.
