New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson has been declared out for the remainder of the postseason following a second procedure on his left ankle, sources confirmed to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
Robinson underwent imaging after the Knicks’ Game 1 victory against the Indiana Pacers, revealing a stress injury to his ankle. He is set to undergo re-evaluation by the team in six-to-eight weeks.
The Knicks, already dealing with the absence of key players Julius Randle and OG Anunoby, face uncertainty regarding Isaiah Hartenstein’s availability for Game 5 after he injured his left shoulder during the previous game.
Heading into Tuesday’s matchup at Madison Square Garden, the second-round series is deadlocked at two games apiece.
Robinson has been sidelined for New York’s past three games. The 7-foot center initially sustained the injury during the first round of the playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers, sitting out Game 4 before returning for the remainder of the series.
Throughout his six-year NBA career, Robinson has grappled with various injury setbacks. This season, he matched a career low with only 31 regular-season appearances.
During the 2023-24 campaign, Robinson posted averages of 5.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game.
Originally selected by the Knicks with the No. 36 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Robinson’s absence poses a significant challenge for the team as they navigate the postseason.
