New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson is expected to sit out the remainder of the team’s 2024 playoff campaign due to a stress injury in his left ankle, marking the third significant loss for the Knicks during their postseason journey.
The Knicks announced on Tuesday that Robinson will undergo reevaluation in six to eight weeks, effectively ruling him out regardless of the team’s postseason progress.
Robinson, who started as the Knicks’ center for the initial 21 games of the season, underwent ankle surgery thereafter, causing him to miss 49 games. He made a comeback late in the season to serve as a backup to Isaiah Hartenstein, featuring in 10 of the last 11 games, contributing to the Knicks securing the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Playing a pivotal role in defending Joel Embiid during the first-round victory against Philadelphia, Robinson sustained his injury during the series and subsequently missed Game 4.
The 7-foot center logged only 12 minutes in Monday’s Game 1 triumph over Indiana, tallying two points and two rebounds.
The Knicks have already endured the loss of All-Star forward Julius Randle and key reserve Bojan Bogdanovic to season-ending injuries. With just a seven-man rotation towards the end of the previous series, they expanded to eight players on Monday, yet their bench was outscored 46-3 by Indiana’s reserves.
