LeBron James remains undecided about his NBA future after the Los Angeles Lakers suffered a narrow 108-106 loss to the Denver Nuggets in Game 5 of their first-round series on Monday night.
Finishing his 21st season with an impressive stat line of 30 points, 11 assists, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals in the season-ending defeat against the Nuggets, James expressed his immediate focus on family matters before shifting his attention to preparations for USA Basketball ahead of the upcoming Olympics in Paris this summer.
When questioned about his plans for Year 22 in the NBA, James stated, “I don’t have an answer… to be honest. I haven’t given it much thought.” He indicated that he would discuss his options with his agent, Rich Paul, and family members to determine the best course for his career.
Regarding the possibility of Monday’s game marking his last appearance for the Lakers, James declined to provide a definitive response, stating, “I’m not going to answer that.”
James faces a decision deadline of June 29 to either opt into the final year of his contract with the Lakers, which amounts to $51.4 million, or explore unrestricted free agency.
