Cameron Norrie secured his first ATP Tour win since July with a hard-fought comeback against Roberto Carballes Baena at the Moselle Open in Metz.
The British number two overcame a set and a break deficit to claim a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory in a thrilling encounter. This marks Norrie’s first Tour win since his triumph over Jozef Kovalik in the opening round of the Swedish Open nearly four months ago.
Norrie, 29, had been sidelined with a forearm injury that forced him to miss several key tournaments, including the Olympics and the US Open, before returning to action last month.
“I was happy with the way I turned it around, and it’s nice to get a win,” Norrie said following the match.
Ranked 57th in the world, Norrie will next face Bulgarian third seed Grigor Dimitrov in the second round on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Casper Ruud of Norway and Russian top seed Andrey Rublev will also be competing in Metz on Tuesday, as they look to secure their spots at the ATP Finals in Turin, which begins on Sunday.
With three places still available, Novak Djokovic (sixth), Ruud (seventh), Alex de Minaur (eighth), and Rublev (ninth) are all in the running. Djokovic, however, is not competing this week after withdrawing from last week’s Paris Masters, while De Minaur is the top seed at the Serbia Open.
