Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has urged New York Jets fans to stay optimistic as the team struggles through a 2-6 start to the season. Rodgers acknowledged the frustration but emphasized the importance of continued support.
“Smile, show up, trust, believe, root us on as hard as you can. We need that noise,” Rodgers said. “We’re trying to rectify this as quickly as possible. I know it’s been frustrating for everybody, but there’s still a lot of season left.”
The Jets are coming off a narrow 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots, marking their worst season start since 2021, when they finished 4-13. This game placed New York in a unique statistical position, as they became the first NFL team since 2012 to lose despite holding their opponent to under 250 yards and committing no turnovers, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
The Jets’ offensive production, despite numerous offseason acquisitions like wide receiver Davante Adams, has yet to meet expectations. The team currently ranks 24th in total yards per game and 25th in points per game, a significant factor in their losing record.
Rodgers, who ranks 22nd among 30 quarterbacks in QBR this season, has faced criticism over his mobility. Patriots defensive lineman Davon Godchaux noted after the game, “He don’t look the same” and “doesn’t look mobile at all.”
Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich responded to these comments, acknowledging Rodgers’ ongoing health challenges. “I don’t know if it’s a concern, but he’s not 100% from a health standpoint,” Ulbrich said, per The Score 1260’s Paul Andrew Esden Jr. However, Ulbrich clarified he has not considered sidelining Rodgers for health recovery.
The Jets will next face the Houston Texans in Week 9 on Thursday Night Football, aiming to turn around their season with a critical matchup.
