The Winnipeg Jets have made history with a strong start to the 2024-25 NHL season, achieving their first-ever 5-0-0 record since the franchise’s inception, which dates back to its time as the Atlanta Thrashers. The Jets secured this milestone with a 6-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on home ice Sunday. The franchise originally entered the league in 1999 and relocated to Winnipeg in 2011.
Currently, the Jets stand as the only unbeaten team in the NHL this season, overcoming an early 2-0 deficit against Pittsburgh. In addition to their win over the Penguins, Winnipeg has also triumphed over the San Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks, and Edmonton Oilers.
Head coach Scott Arniel emphasized the importance of team effort, stating, “It’s a long season, and it’s hard to get guys continually to do it every night. But the biggest thing I’ve said about the buy-in is the results that come from it. Especially how we defend.” He added, “That’s what we keep trying to preach. If you don’t have it, go get it so you can play offense, and that’s the fun part of the game.”
The Jets have demonstrated impressive form, winning 13 consecutive games, dating back to the 2023-24 regular season. They finished the last campaign on an eight-game winning streak before being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
In terms of performance metrics, Winnipeg ranks second in the league with 24 goals scored and leads the NHL with only eight goals allowed. The Jets will look to extend their winning streak to 6-0-0 in their upcoming game against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
