Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson has been removed from the team’s injury report for the first time this season, the Steelers announced on Friday.
Head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that Wilson is “probably going to be active as the No. 2 quarterback” behind Justin Fields for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders, per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.
Wilson, 35, participated fully in all three practices this week after being sidelined for the first five games of the season. He initially aggravated a calf injury prior to the season opener, causing him to miss significant time.
“Like what I’ve seen out here, but health and rust are two different things,” Tomlin stated on Friday. “I thought he had a good week displaying his health, his ability to protect himself. Now it’s just the process of getting reacclimated to the ball.”
Wilson was initially named the team’s starting quarterback for the 2024 season, but with his injury, Fields has taken over, leading the Steelers to a 3-2 record. In five starts, Fields has completed 67.6% of his passes, throwing five touchdowns and one interception. He has also contributed three rushing touchdowns.
Pittsburgh, coming off back-to-back losses, is looking to bounce back against the Raiders on Sunday.
