New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson is set to miss the beginning of the 2024-25 season as he continues his recovery from offseason ankle surgery, according to sources cited by SNY’s Ian Begley.
Robinson’s anticipated return date is projected for December or January, pending confirmation from both the Knicks and Robinson that he has reached full health, Begley reports.
The injury occurred during Game 1 of the Knicks’ playoff series against the Indiana Pacers, marking the second surgical procedure on his injured left ankle.
Last season, the 7-footer averaged 5.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks over 31 games. He recorded an impressive 4.6 offensive rebounds per game in 2023-24, leading the NBA.
As the Knicks prepare for the season, they will face challenges in their frontcourt due to the departure of backup center Isaiah Hartenstein, who signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder as a free agent this offseason.
Additionally, three-time All-Star Julius Randle underwent shoulder surgery at the end of last year and missed the last 36 regular-season games, along with the Knicks’ playoff appearances.
Currently, Jericho Sims is the only other center on the Knicks’ roster.
The Knicks are set to open their season against the defending champion Boston Celtics on October 22.
