Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has declined to pay the €55 million ($60.6 million) disputed by Kylian Mbappe, despite a French league (LFP) order issued earlier on Thursday.
The LFP, which manages the top two divisions of French football, had directed PSG to make the payment. However, PSG announced their intention to seek a legal ruling outside the LFP’s jurisdiction.
Mbappe, who departed PSG for Real Madrid this summer, claims that PSG owes him €55 million in wages and bonuses. PSG counters that Mbappe had agreed to forgo these payments in August 2023.
In response to the LFP commission’s order for PSG to pay within a week, the club stated, “Given the limits of the Commission’s legal scope to make a full decision on this matter, the case must now be pursued before another court.”
“PSG will look forward to presenting all the facts over the coming months and year,” they added.
The legal representatives for both sides met on Wednesday after Mbappe submitted his case to the LFP’s legal committee.
