Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has indicated that quarterback Jordan Love might be available for the team’s Week 2 game against the Indianapolis Colts. Despite initially being expected to miss three to four weeks due to an MCL sprain, LaFleur suggested that the possibility of Love playing next week remains open.
“I’d say it’s pretty open,” LaFleur said on Wednesday, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. “But at the same time, he’s gotta be cleared.”
The Packers have not yet decided to place Love on injured reserve. LaFleur also confirmed that Malik Willis will start at quarterback for the Packers until Love is cleared to return. Willis was acquired by Green Bay before Week 1, following two seasons with the Tennessee Titans that were marked by limited success.
Love sustained the knee injury in the final minute of last week’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. In his first season as Green Bay’s starter in 2023, Love threw for over 4,000 yards and accounted for 36 total touchdowns.
In addition to Willis, the Packers have practice squad quarterback Sean Clifford on their roster. Clifford took some first-team snaps in a rotation with Willis on Wednesday, as noted by Ryan Wood of USA Today.
