The New York Yankees have recalled top prospect Jasson Domínguez to the major-league roster. Domínguez is set to start in center field for the Yankees’ game against the Kansas City Royals on Monday, as reported by Meredith Marakovits of YES Network.
“Jasson’s gonna play a lot,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated, according to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News.
The 21-year-old outfielder is currently ranked 16th on MLB Pipeline’s top 100 prospects list. This season, he has demonstrated strong performance in the minors, achieving an .880 OPS with 11 home runs, 35 RBIs, and 16 steals in 58 games across three levels.
Domínguez’s promotion follows recent comments from Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, who indicated that the team planned to continue with Alex Verdugo in left field, suggesting that the struggling veteran provided a better chance to win.
Last September, Domínguez made a notable impact by hitting four home runs in eight games with New York before suffering a UCL tear. His only game with the Yankees this season occurred on August 18 against the Detroit Tigers, in which he did not record a hit.
In other roster moves, the Yankees reinstated infielder Jon Berti from the 60-day injured list, placed DJ LeMahieu on the 10-day IL with a right hip impingement, and designated left-hander Anthony Misiewicz for assignment. Boone mentioned uncertainty about LeMahieu’s return this season, as reported by Phillips.
