Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets have finalized a max contract extension worth $208 million over four years, as confirmed by his agent to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The extension ensures Murray will earn a total of $244 million across the next five seasons, securing his place with the Nuggets through the 2028-29 season.
Murray, who missed the 2021-22 season due to a torn ACL, has been Denver’s second-leading scorer for the past two seasons, averaging 20 points in 2023 and 21.2 points in 2024.
Despite not making an All-Star team, Murray has developed a strong pick-and-roll partnership with three-time MVP Nikola Jokic. Together, they led the Nuggets to the 2023 NBA Championship. Murray is among the eight players in NBA history with multiple 50-point games in the playoffs.
However, Murray’s performance in recent months has been challenging. During the 2024 NBA Playoffs, he averaged 20.6 points but struggled with shooting, hitting just 40.2% from the field and 31.5% from three-point range in Denver’s 12 postseason games. His difficulties continued at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where he averaged six points and 3.8 assists while shooting 29% from the field and 14.3% from three-point range. Canada was defeated by France in the quarterfinals.
For the upcoming season, Murray will play a crucial role as the Nuggets’ primary ball handler. The team will be without backup point guard Reggie Jackson, who joined the Philadelphia 76ers, and starting shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who signed a $66 million contract with the Orlando Magic.
The Nuggets will begin their season against the Oklahoma City Thunder on October 24.
