The Washington Commanders have dismissed an employee after a video surfaced online showing him making disparaging remarks about players and fans.
A spokesperson for the Commanders confirmed on Thursday that Rael Enteen, the team’s vice president of content, had been fired. Enteen had initially been suspended while an internal investigation was conducted.
In the video, which was posted by O’Keefe Media Group, Enteen is seen making derogatory statements, calling some players “dumb and homophobic” and referring to fans as “high school-educated alcoholics” and “mouth breathers.”
The team issued a statement Wednesday, saying, “The language used in the video runs counter to our values at the Commanders organization.”
James O’Keefe, founder of O’Keefe Media Group, told The Associated Press that the video was filmed during two separate occasions in June in Washington. According to O’Keefe, Enteen and the woman who filmed the video had met through a dating app.
In addition to criticizing players and fans, Enteen also made negative comments about NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. He described Goodell as “a $50 million puppet” and characterized the NFL’s social justice initiatives as performative. He also suggested that Jones “hates gay people and Black people.”
Enteen had been with the Washington Commanders since 2020. As of Thursday, neither the NFL nor the Dallas Cowboys had provided a response to requests for comment.
